HPAF presents opera star Peabody Southwell

Hawaii Performing Arts Festival presents mezzo soprano Peabody Southwell, one of America’s most promising young opera stars, in two concerts on Nov. 1 and 2. Val Underwood, pianist and HPAF artistic director, will accompany Southwell in a lively exploration of music and wines from around the world.

Southwell made her professional opera debut in “The Cunning Little Vixen” with the Long Beach Opera. She has dazzled audiences around the world, including at her Los Angeles Opera debut under the baton of Placido Domingo in the world premiere of “Dulce Rosa.”

Performances will be at 6 p.m. Nov. 1 at the home of Andrew Czajkowski and David Perbix in Kohala Ranch and 2 p.m. Nov. 2 at the home of James Monk in Captain Cook.

Tickets are $100 per person and include international wines and pupu. Proceeds go toward 2015 scholarships for young artists. Seating is limited. Tickets may be ordered through the festival’s website at hawaiiperformingartsfestival.org.

Hawaii Performing Arts Festival is a 501(c)3 nonprofit arts organization. Each July, HPAF’s monthlong musical intensive brings students together with renowned artists from all over the world in a program of lessons, classes, recitals and concerts. HPAF awards scholarships to young artists from Hawaii, and brings more tha$500,000 into the local economy each year, according to HPAF.
