A tropical storm watch remains in effect for the Big Island ahead of the arrival of Tropical Storm Ana.

A tropical storm watch remains in effect for the Big Island ahead of the arrival of Tropical Storm Ana.

Ana is currently 280 miles southeast of Hilo and 300 miles southeast of Kailua-Kona. The tropical cyclone, currently packing 70 mph winds, is moving toward the west-northwest around 14 mph.

The storm to begin impacting the Big Island on Friday. Surf is expected to begin arriving Thursday night. The southern portion of Hawaii Island is expected to experience 15- to 30-foot waves.

Heavy rains and high winds are also expected.
