HONOLULU — The Honolulu City Council has approved two more lawsuit settlements filed against police officers.
The Honolulu Star-Advertiser reports the council has approved a dozen settlements this year for payments of $2.6 million.
The council Wednesday approved a settlement for a claim against a 22-year police veteran in the Traffic Division who was holding a stun gun when he knocked an iPhone out of the hand of a man recording an arrest.
An attorney for Randy Salazar Jr. says Salazar suffered a broken finger in January 2013 when the officer struck him. The city agreed to pay him $37,000.
In the second settlement, the city will pay $22,500 to John Ilae, who said a detective illegally held him for an extended period after an arrest in June 2010.
