Rotary Club to raise funds through Octoberfest event
Rotary Club of Kona Sunrise will host a “Kona Kine Octoberfest” from 5 to 8 p.m. Oct. 24 at the Honokohau Big Game Fishing Club.
Food will be prepared by Big Island Grill, draft beer will be poured by Kona Brewing Company and Jack and the Rippers will provide the entertainment.
A live auction will include works of art contributed by some of the island’s finest artists. There will also be a silent auction. Proceeds will benefit Rotary’s work in Kona.
Tickets are $30 and include food, coffee, dessert, one drink and a door prize ticket. Tickets are available at Kona Wine Market and Kailua Candy Company, or by calling Sylvia Owens at 937-3579. Tickets are limited.
International ballroom competition comes to Keauhou
The Aloha Ball Dance Competition will be held Oct. 25 at Sheraton Kona Resort &Spa at Keauhou Bay.
Professional and amateur ballroom and Latin competitions will take place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. with a professional showcase to highlight the evening. The best ballroom and Latin dancers from California, Japan and Hawaii will compete. Tickets are $45. Email info@feetsafire.com for tickets and information.
Walk raises money for domestic violence support
YWCA of Hawaii Island will host the sixth annual “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes” at 7:30 a.m. Oct. 25.
The march will begin at the Kona International Market in Kailua-Kona and at the YWCA Ululani Street campus in Hilo. Participants should register at 7:30 a.m. and select their shoes. Teams and individuals may participate as well as women and teens. All walkers are urged to raise money through pledges to support their participation, which costs $10. Proceeds benefit the YWCA of Hawaii Island Sexual Assault Support Services program.
Mayor Billy Kenoi and Wally Lau will lead the march and address participants.
