Mahalo for bringing super PACs to light
Mahalo for bringing super PACs to light
Mahalo to West Hawaii Today and Nancy Cook Lauer for reporting on the super PAC Forward Progress, which is working hard to sway island politics and elections on Maui and Hawaii Island.
Thanks to the Supreme Court decision that allows unlimited campaign contributions, this group has received its funding from the Hawaii Carpenters Market Recovery Program — $260,529 as of Aug. 9 — to work to sway public opinion of Hawaii Councilwoman Margaret Wille, a Maui County Council incumbent, and likely others. However, the group has not disclosed its donors.
Mahalo to Karen Chun for filing the necessary papers to reveal its funding sources.
Now let’s see, who could that be? Who has that kind of money and wants to make sure that genetically engineered crops have no restrictions placed upon them?
The ads against Margaret Wille, and promoting Ron Gonzales, point to her lack of support for farmers and farming on Hawaii Island. Nothing could be further from the truth. Councilwoman Wille is currently working to support every school garden in every public and charter school in her district.
I’m confident that Hawaii’s voters are more akamai than this campaign suggests.
