Hawaii Volcanoes National Park recently announced the following upcoming flight plans for October and November. Park management requires the use of aircraft to monitor and research volcanic activity, conduct search-and-rescue missions and law enforcement operations, support management of natural and cultural resources, and to maintain backcountry facilities.

Park management requires the use of aircraft to monitor and research volcanic activity, conduct search-and-rescue missions and law enforcement operations, support management of natural and cultural resources, and to maintain backcountry facilities.

Between 6 a.m. and 11 a.m. Wednesday and Thursday, ungulate surveys in Kahuku will take place between the 3,000- and 7,000-foot elevation.

Between 8 a.m. and noon Oct. 16, petrel monitoring will take place from the summit of Kilauea to Mauna Loa at about 9,000-foot elevation.

On Oct. 16 and Oct. 17, fountain grass monitoring and control will occur from Kaaha to the Great Crack along the Southwest Rift Zone of Kilauea.

On Nov. 3 and Nov. 5, aircraft will be transporting camp supplies from Hilina Pali Road to Kamooalii for fountain grass monitoring and control.

Between 6 a.m. and 8 a.m. Nov. 4, ungulate surveys and control work will take place in Kahuku between the 3,000- and 7,000-foot elevation.

Between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. Nov. 10, mullein surveys will occur on Mauna Loa.

Between 8 a.m. and noon Nov. 24 and Nov. 25, there will be petrel monitoring from the summit of Kilauea to Mauna Loa at about 9,000-foot elevation.

The park regrets any noise impact to residents and park visitors. Dates and times are subject to change based on aircraft availability and weather.
