HONOLULU — A grant is allowing the University of Hawaii at Manoa to offer Korean language lessons to the public.
The classes will train adults and high school students in elementary and intermediate levels of Korean language and culture.
Noncredit classes will be taught on the Manoa campus for three hours per week. Lesson topics range from Korean food to Korean television dramas.
The grant money comes from King Sejong Institute Foundation, a South Korean government entity that promotes Korean language and culture around the world.
The funds will establish the King Sejong Institute Honolulu, one of six such institutes in the United States.
The Korean Language Flagship Center at the Department of East Asian Languages and Literatures won the grant.
