The Blue Sea Artisans Gallery featured artist for the month of October is oil and watercolor painter Marilyn Koschella.

In 1996, Koschella’s serious interest in oil painting started by attending classes and workshops in Carson City, Nev. Later, she added watercolor painting to her activities. The use of a palette knife caught her interest in 2001. Koschella attended a three-day workshop with Hope Stevenson, of Mendicino, Calif. in 2007, to help perfect her use of the palette knife.

While on a vacation in France, Koschella was able to add a side trip to Monet’s home. She has completed copies of several of Monet’s paintings. His style as an Impressionist has influenced her style of art.

Koschella has been painting with the West Hawaii Plein Air Painters since March of 2009. In May 2010, she joined the Kona Arts Center in Kainaliu. She is an active member of the Blue Sea Artisans Gallery since April 2011 and the Kailua Village Artists Gallery since June 2011. Since moving to Hawaii, she has also been crocheting colorful Hawaiian lei.
