The Hawaii County Civil Defense in partnership with the State Civil Defense will be conducting a test of the warning sirens located at Kings Landing in Hilo, and Hawaiian Beaches and Leilani estates in Puna on Thursday.
The testing will be conducted between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., Civil Defense said. These tests are to confirm the proper operation of newly installed equipment.
Residents in these areas may hear the siren sound multiple times during 30-second to 1-minute intervals. Testing will also include checks of the public address system and short blasts of the siren.
The public is reminded that the monthly siren test was conducted as planned on the first working day of each month. The public is reminded to monitor local radio broadcasts with siren soundings to receive additional information on the siren system activation.
Anyone having questions regarding this test may contact Civil Defense at 935-0031.
