Starting this month, the state Department of Transportation is making veteran designations available on licenses, learner’s permits and state IDs.
Those who served in any uniformed services and received a discharge other than dishonorable are eligible. Applicants must provide proof, such as discharge papers of a verification letter issued by the Veterans Administration.
Veterans whose licenses, permits or IDs aren’t within in the renewal period can add the veteran designation by applying for a duplicate for a fee.
The bill was introduced by Rep. Mark Takai, who says it provides an easy way for veterans to prove their status and help them receive services and discounts.
