Student service project benefits monk seals

Kealakehe Elementary second-grade students recently kicked off their community service campaign to raise money and awareness of the endangered Hawaiian monk seal. Students were presented with information from the Hawaiian Monk Seal Foundation and attended a presentation by West Hawaii Explorations Academy honor student Skyla Graig-Murray. Students learned about monk seal protection and what to do if they see an injured monk seal. Graig-Murray also led students in an interactive game highlighting things humans can do to protect marine life.

Those who see a monk seal or any marine mammal being harassed by humans or other animals should call 987-0765.
