College planning outreach for new online certificate programs
Hawaii residents who want to quickly gain specialized education and increase their employability are invited to attend one of several informational events Hawaii Community College will host in October.
The events will highlight the school’s new online, accelerated certificate programs designed to increase students’ skills while accommodating their schedules and locations. Open house events will be held from 4 to 6:45 p.m. Oct. 14 at W.M. Keck Observatory in Waimea; 5:30 to 7 p.m. Oct. 16 at Kohala High School cafeteria; 5 to 7 p.m. Oct. 21 at North Hawaii Education and Research Center in Honokaa and 5 to 7 p.m. Oct. 28 at West Hawaii Civic Center Building A.

Free Masons hold monthly meeting
The monthly meeting of Kona Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons will be held Wednesday at the Kona Masonic Center, 73-5577 Kauhola St., Suite 7 in Kailua-Kona. The activities will begin with a dinner at 6 p.m. The meeting will be held at 7 p.m.

Suicide Prevention Task Force meets, plans support group
The West Hawaii Suicide Prevention Task Force will meet from 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday at West Hawaii Community Health Center. Anyone interested in promoting life in the face of a potential suicide is invited.
The West Hawaii Suicide Prevention Task Force will also hold an emotional support group for suicide survivors at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Orchid Isle Psychotherapy in Mango Court, Suite 214 in Kealakekua. The group is intended to assist the family and friends who are left behind after a suicide.
