Fumiyo Yamanaka
Fumiyo Yamanaka, 92, died Aug. 20, 2014, in Castro Valley, Calif. Born in Hilo, she worked as a registered nurse and was a teacher at Waiakea and Hilo high schools.
Friends may call at 9:30 a.m. Oct. 2 at Holy Apostles Church, 1407 Kapiolani St. in Hilo for a 10 a.m. service. Family requests aloha attire be worn. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Hilo.
She is survived by daughters, Velda Yamanaka, Maxine (Marcos) Eisenberg; sister, Sumie Tajiri; brother, Shinichi Ebisuzaki; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Tatsuo Kawauchi
Tatsuo “Toppy” Kawauchi, 98, of Hilo died July 3, 2014, at Hospice of Hilo Pohai Malama facility. Born in Piihonua, he was a retired working foreman mechanic for the County of Hawaii, member of Waiakea Uka Bible Church, Piihonua Kumiai and a World War II Army veteran serving with Company F, 100th Infantry Battalion.
Private services were held. Family requests no flowers and monetary gifts.
He is survived by sons, Alvin (Charmaine) Kawauchi of Hilo, Brian Kawauchi of Wailuku; daughters, Judy (Earl) Fujishige and Bertha (Richard) Mashiyama, both of Hilo; sister, Kazuko Mishima of Hilo; nine grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
