FSU suspends Winston for entire game
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Florida State has suspended Jameis Winston for the entire game against Clemson on Saturday, extending its initial punishment of one half after the quarterback made “offensive and vulgar” comments about female anatomy earlier this week.
Interim President Garnett S. Stokes and athletic director Stan Wilcox announced the decision late Friday night. There had been criticism that the original punishment for Winston’s latest embarrassing off-field incident was too light.
The statement released by the university Friday read, “Based upon the results of our continuing investigation of Tuesday’s incident involving Jameis Winston, we have decided to not play him for the entire game against Clemson on Saturday night.”
Rutgers AD joked about Sandusky scandal
PISCATAWAY, N.J. — Rutgers University has acknowledged that Athletic Director Julie Hermann made an off-the-cuff joke about the Jerry Sandusky child sex-abuse scandal at Penn State during a meeting with staff last fall.
The university said Friday that Hermann made the impromptu comment in a fundraising meeting but that it wasn’t directed at anyone associated with Penn State.
The incident was first reported by NJ Advance Media. Its story included statements from more than a half-dozen people inside the Rutgers athletic department.
The report said Hermann told staff members to “reach out and touch the donors” of the Rutgers program, and her punchline was to not do it “in a Sandusky way.” It comes days after Rutgers apologized for offensive signs related to the scandal during last week’s Rutgers-Penn State game.
