Kealakehe High School alumus Gato Scatena, class of 2000, has released his first feature film in theaters. Titled “Mantervention,” the film is about a recently dumped young man who turns to his best friend for help mending his broken heart.

This intervention includes lots of dating, drinking and wild beach parties. Along the way, the young man learns there is more to love than meets the eye.

Scatena has secured the film’s release at AMC theaters across the country, turning a long-held dream into a concrete reality.

“We’re excited to have a film we worked so hard on show up in theaters,” Scatena said. “Nothing beats seeing your work up on the big screen.”

Scatena graduated from the University of California at Santa Cruz with a film studies degree, then founded his own production company with longtime friend, Jordan Rosner. Called SNR Films, the company has produced six features and documentaries in the last four years, garnering both critical and audience praise.

Screenwriter, Juan Gallego, a full-time emergency room doctor in Tampa, Fla., based the scripts for “Mantervention” on a youthful breakup and the summer he worked as a bartender trying to get over it.
