Chinese healer to lead workshop in Hawi

A workshop with healer Peng Xiaoping from China will teach attendees how to use Fa Qi to improve their health and help others.

The class will be held from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Friday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday Sept. 21 at Kokolulu Farm and Retreats in Hawi. Cost is $245. To register, call 889-9893 or visit kokolulu.org.

Puu Waawaa Advisory Council meeting set

The upcoming Puu Waawaa Advisory Council meeting will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Friday at the Lake House at Puu Waawaa Forest Reserve.

This quarterly meeting will update the council on education, research and management efforts in the Puu Waawaa ahupuaa, and will solicit advice and expertise on proposed management actions. The meeting agenda will be posted at the lieutenant governor’s office, as well as on the Department of Land and Natural Resources meetings and the Hawaii Experimental Tropical Forest websites.

Tropical fruit growers meeting planned

The next meeting of the West Hawaii chapter of Hawaii Tropical Fruit Growers will be part of the group’s 24th annual conference and held from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the University of Hawaii Experiment Station in Kainaliu across from Aloha Theatre.

John Preece from the U.S. Department of Agriculture Germplasm Repository in Davis, Calif. will speak on propagation. Yoshimi Yonemoto from Japan will teach how to grow 30-foot-wide mango trees that are only a few feet tall and can produce 1,000 fruit. There is a $10 fee for members and $45 fee for nonmembers, which includes membership and refreshments.

All attending are encouraged to bring fruit for sampling and to talk story.
