Federal officials have granted $2.4 million in funding to 11 Hawaii health centers, including two on Hawaiii Island.

Bay Clinic in Hilo will get $239,000, while West Hawaii Community Health Center in Kailua-Kona will receive $219,000.

The money is classified as Affordable Care Act funding and is intended to help the health centers expand primary care services, federal officials said.

Statewide, the funding will allow health centers to hire about 38 new staff, including new health care providers, stay open for longer hours and expand the care they provide to include new services including oral health, mental and behavioral health, pharmacy and/or vision services.

These investments will help health centers reach an estimated 15,094 new patients in Hawaii, officials said.
