The Satin Dolls Cabaret show will return to the Aloha Theatre in Kainaliu for a 7:30 p.m. show Saturday. The performance pairs dance and jazz as it was originally featured in cabaret shows. The show features Binti Bailey and the Satin Dolls dancing to the live music of the Casablanca Jazz Quartet. Reserved seats are on sale at alohatheatre.com.
The Satin Dolls Cabaret is created, directed and produced by the performers. Bailey, lead vocalist and dancer, and Pennie Sullivan, lead choreographer and dancer, created the dance routines for the Satin Dolls, which also includes Oriana Sandoval, Aileen Kunewa and Karen Ippoliti. The music is arranged and performed by the Casablanca Jazz Quartet, featuring Sue Garrod on trombone and keyboard, Steve Reynolds on acoustic guitar and vocals, Scott Jeffrey on acoustic bass, and Eric Jaeger on drums. Jeffrey is also the master of ceremonies.
“The cabaret show is a fun and flirty performance,” Bailey said. “This is our second year performing at the Aloha Theatre. We added new dancers and music, featuring some works by Duke Ellington from his famous Cotton Club performances and nationwide radio broadcasts. Duke’s sexy and colorful music sets the mood, to which we add music from other great cabaret performances.”
“We are grateful to our ‘angel sponsors’ who have assisted us in defraying our costs for rental, technical staff and the show’s numerous expenses,” Garrod said. “Their interest in supporting this live performance is what makes it possible for us to present this to the community.”
Angel sponsors include Mahalo Broadcasting LAVA 105 and KKOA 107, Amethyst Night Club, Mokulele Airlines, Big Island Honda, Aloha Insurance Services, Tasty Ventures — including Huggo’s On the Rocks and Lava Lava Beach Club, Sue and Hilary Brown of Livingston Realty, and the Edible World Institute. Additional supporters include Kona Business Center, Aloha Will and Trust, Body Glove Cruises, Jack’s Diving Locker, 7D Sound Healing and Retreats, BB Simon, Yoga Hale, Terry Bensch, Deborah Ozaki, BoloHawaii.com, Coconut Girls Hawaii, and Hawaii Public Radio.
Tickets are reserved seating only and available for $20 in advance; $25 at the show. Doors open at 7 p.m.
