Hurricane Norbert has hit what forecasters believe is a peak intensity of 90 mph in the Eastern Pacific far from Hawaii.

A Hurricane Hunter aircraft found maximum winds of 96 mph in a system that is lumbering northwest at 8 mph roughly parallel to the west coast of the Baja California peninsula. Thursday, Norbert was located about 100 miles southwest of the southern tip of the peninsula. Drier air and cooler sea surface temperatures are expected to cap the intensity of the system, with the cyclone becoming a remnant low by Monday.
