HONOLULU — The number of visitors to Hawaii rose 2.5 percent last month from the same period last year, to more than 772,000.
The Hawaii Tourism Authority said Wednesday spending climbed 2.6 percent to $1.4 billion.
CEO Mike McCartney says the figures were the highest on record for the month of July.
Travelers aren’t staying as long when they come, however. The average visitor length of stay declined 3 percent to just over 9 days.
McCartney says the agency will continue to monitor travel trends, including how higher prices and budget concerns may prompt travelers to spend less and stay for shorter periods.
Visitor arrivals from the western region of the U.S. climbed more than 5 percent. The increase was the first after 11 months of declines.
