HONOLULU — The Hawaii chapter of the American Red Cross is recruiting disaster volunteers.
The organization is looking for volunteers on Oahu, Maui, Kauai, Lanai, Molokai and the Big Island.
Hawaii Red Cross CEO Coralie Matayoshi notes that Tropical Storm Iselle is an example of how important volunteers are for disasters. Iselle was particularly damaging to the Puna region.
The organization has about 1,500 volunteers across Hawaii. The majority of the 200 workers helping with Iselle response were volunteers.
Those interested in volunteering will be asked to take a basic disaster class for free.
