HONOLULU — A weekend brush fire burned about 800 acres near Makakilo.
The Honolulu Star-Advertiser reports the fire was first reported Friday afternoon.
The fire forced the evacuation of 20 houses along Umena Street and 20 cabins and other structures at Camp Timberline.
Residents were allowed to return Sunday.
Honolulu firefighters Sunday were trying to keep the brush fire from reaching Honouliuli Forest Reserve.
Honolulu Fire Department Capt. David Jenkins says 35 Honolulu firefighters and 13 state firefighters were re-establishing firebreaks to prevent the fire from reaching the reserve, the home of dozens of threatened and endangered species.
Three private helicopters helped with suppression by dropping water on the fire.
Investigators say the fire was started by two young boys playing with a lighter.
