Mass burn the best plan for solid waste
Mass burn the best plan for solid waste
“A good plan violently executed now is better than a perfect plan executed next week.” — George S. Patton
And so it goes with solid waste disposal. There may be a better way than mass burn, but mass burn is the available affordable technology, and every week we waste waiting for a better plan is another week’s waste piled up. And that’s if there is a better plan.
We live in a democracy; That means everyone has a right to be heard, but it does not mean that anyone has a right to obstruct anything.

Not for us to know if the end is near
This is in response to Dean Nagasako’s letter of Aug. 17. Over 1,000 years ago, similar signs compelled a widespread belief that the end of the world was approaching. And, it did not. As we read in Matthew 24:36, “Concerning that day and hour nobody knows, neither the angels of the heavens nor the Son, but only the Father.”
It is not our kuleana to consider whether or not the end is near. Rather, we should be focused on keeping ourselves “God’s love, while you are waiting for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ with everlasting life in view,” as taught in Jude 21.

Loo is the one who was ‘Ige’d’
Leighton Loo, whose letter ran Aug. 17, is the one who’s been ‘Ige’d’ (definition: duped).
Abercrombie is the outsider, championed by the late great Patsy Mink, co-author of Title 9; he was never embraced by Dan Inouye.
Granted, Abercrombie does represent special interests: our keiki, women, a college for Kona, fiscal stability for Hawaii nei, protecting our aina and human rights.
Ige represents the Democratic Party machine trying to keep control of this state. He’s backed by George Ariyoshi and Ben Cayetano.
I remember Arioshi and his wife tearfully greeting deposed dictator Ferdinand Marcos and his wife, Imelda, when they arrived in exile, disgraced.
And Cayatano’s recent lawsuit against rail is now going to cost the state $100 million in overruns. Way to go, Ben.
Abercrombie, gracious in defeat, lost because he made some tough decisions and was the victim of nepotism.
Ige wants to spend the sequestered funds he calls surplus, when they should be returned to the hurricane fund and the teachers’ pension.
Enjoy the results of the election, Duke.
