Elks hold drawing for Volkswagen Beetle
Kona Elks Lodge 2616 is holding a drawing to win a yellow 1999 Volkswagen Beetle. Tickets are $10 each or 12 for $100. Proceeds will fund the many community projects and programs supported by the Elks.

Youth chorus offered free this season
As part of its 25th anniversary celebration, Kona Choral Society is waiving the $300 tuition for each child in grades three through 12 who participates in the Kona Choral Society Youth Chorus this season.
The yearlong program runs Aug. 21 through May 23. Activities include concert performances, an October music camp and a Big Island concert tour at the end of May.
Rehearsals are Thursdays from 3:45 to 5:30 p.m. at the Kealakehe Intermediate School chorus room. Marinella Savarese, 936-9567, directs the keiki and Gloria Juan is the accompanist.

Class helps seniors avoid fraud
Two West Hawaii presentations will help kupuna avoid becoming victims of fraud, prescription drug misuse and crime.
Multiple state agencies will bring information on Medicare fraud prevention, securities fraud prevention and prescription drug misuse. The Hawaii Police Department will provide information and tips on securing your residence to prevent burglaries and thefts.
The class will be held from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday in the West Hawaii Civic Center County Council room and from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Hawaiian Homes Hall in Waimea.
Immediately following each one-hour presentation, the Department of Public Safety’s Narcotics Enforcement Division will conduct a half-hour prescription drug take-back operation. Participants are encouraged to bring their unused or expired mediation for safe, anonymous disposal.
