A Kapaau man is in police custody in connection with a burglary in North Kohala.

On May 12, a 77-year-old Kapaau man reported that tools had been removed from his property, according to the Hawaii Police Department.

Investigation by detectives from the Area II Criminal Investigations Section led to a suspect identified as Christopher Kaipo Fernandez, 39. He was arrested Monday and taken to the Kona police cellblock while detectives continued the investigation.

Tuesday afternoon, Fernandez was charged with burglary and theft. His bail was set at $4,000. He remained at the cellblock pending his initial court appearance scheduled for today.
