HONOLULU — Authorities have identified a man who was fatally struck by a vehicle while crossing against the Don’t Walk sign on Kamehameha Highway.

The Honolulu Star Advertiser reports the Medical Examiner’s Office identified the pedestrian as 68-year-old Remigio Welle.

Police say a car struck him about 9 p.m., July 29, when he crossed the highway near the Middle Street freeway entrance. He was transported to a hospital, where officials say he died the following morning.

According to witnesses, police say drivers honked their horns trying to warn Welle that he was crossing against the light.
