Heavy rain continues to fall in North Kona, prompting the National Weather Service to extend a flood advisory until 7:30 p.m.
At 6:12 p.m., radar continued to show slow-moving heavy showers on the Kona slopes, between Puuanahulu and Keahole Point, according to forecasters. The advisory may be extended if the heavy rain persists.
Other locations included in the advisory are the Kona Village Resort.
The public is advised to stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low-lying areas prone to flooding. Rainfall and runoff will cause hazardous driving conditions because of ponding, reduced visibility and poor braking action.
Some ponding and runoff is being reported along Highway 190 or Old Mamalahoa Highwayin the Puuanahulu area, according to the Hawaii County Civil Defense.
