The Division of Forestry and Wildlife is closing the trail because it crosses several streams that may be subject to flash flooding. Campers holding permits for Waimanu campground are being notified, according to the department. Depending on trail conditions, the trail and campground should reopen on Tuesday.
The Division of State Parks will keep all Hawaii parks open, according to the department.
DLNR reminds the public to listen to weather forecasts, advisories or warnings, and avoid going on hiking trails or crossing flooding streams which may be subject to flash floods and rising waters. When in doubt, don’t go out.
