A brown water advisory was issued Wednesday for Honokahua Bay on Maui after backed up storm water breached a sand berm at the Honokahua Stream mouth, according to the Hawaii Department of Health.
The department advised the public to stay out of the flood waters and runoff because it may contain overflow from cesspools and sewer manholes, pesticides, animal fecal matter, dead animals, pathogens, chemicals, and debris. Turbid water runoff have been known to attract sharks because of possible dead animals being washed into the ocean.
If coastal waters are brown, the department advises the public stay out.
