The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a flood advisory for Hawaii Island until 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
At 4:18 p.m., radar showed moderate to heavy rain along the leeward slopes of the Big Island, up slope from the Kona Village Resort, Kailua-Kona, and Honaunau, according to forecasters. The area of heavy rain was nearly stationary.
Other locations in the advisory include, but are not limited to, Keahole Point, Keauhou and Captain Cook.
The public is advised to stay away streams, drainage ditches and low-lying areas prone to flooding. Rainfall and runoff will cause hazardous driving conditions because of ponding, reduced visibility and poor braking action.
