Kailua-Kona elementary school teacher Wrayna Fairchild was recently awarded a 2014 Fund for Teachers Educator Fellowship. As a fellow, Fairchild traveled to New Zealand to study environmental education for a period of four weeks. Fairchild conducted school site visits and attended a workshop hosted by Sustainable Coastlines.
Additionally, Fairchild visited key environmental and cultural sites across both the North and South Islands, including a Maori village, Franz Josef glacier and Milford Sound. She focused on learning strategies for preserving native culture while working toward island environmental sustainability.
