A flash flood warning has been extended for areas of East Hawaii, according to the National Weather Service. The warning is now in effect until 10:30 p.m. Sunday.
Heavy showers and thunderstorms continue to form and move ashore over the Big Island from Laupahoehoe to South Point, according to forecasters. Rain is falling at a rate of 2 inches per hours. Honolii Stream remains near flood stage.
Locations in the warning include Volcano, Pepeekeo, Papaikou, Pahoa, Ookala, Mountain View, Laupahoehoe, Keaau, Kapoho, Honomu, Hilo, Hawaiian Paradise Park, Hawaiian Beaches, Hakalau and Glenwood.
A flash flood warning means flash flooding is imminent or occurring in streams, roads and low-lying areas. If you are in the area, you should move to higher ground now, the service advised.
The public is advised not to cross fast-flowing or rising water on foot or in a vehicle.
