HONOLULU — Surfer Carissa Moore is joining the sport’s hall of fame at 21 years old, after just two world championships.
Even Moore said that when she learned of her induction, she thought, “Isn’t this kind of soon?”
“I hoped that maybe, someday, I would have a shot at something like this. But I thought it would be like when I was 32 or something,” Moore said Friday, according to the Honolulu Star-Advertiser. “I feel like I’m still just beginning my career.”
The surfer who turns 22 in August has a busy month and a half before her birthday, including the hall induction July 25. She’ll also defend her U.S. Open Championship of Surfing title, release a single and attend the ESPY awards as a finalist for best female action sports athlete.
Moore has won the U.S. Open twice and has won two of five Association of Surfing Professionals women’s events this year. She leads the standings in points and earnings with $172,250.
Moore has 11 world tour wins since 2008.
“I would like to try to leave much more of a mark on surfing,” she said. “I feel like I’ve just started.”
