Gail has information on the Bob May Golf Academy at Waikoloa Beach Resort Kings’ Course offering lessons for adults, juniors and couples, and all-day clinics until July 31. May won the 1999 British Masters and battled Tiger Woods into a playoff at the 2000 PGA Championship.

DOE-required meetings for parents
The Konawaena High School athletics department will conduct Department of Education-mandated meetings for parents of students interested in sports participation.
For football, the meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. July 16 in the school cafeteria. The Parent/Student Handbook will be reviewed and the DOE Risk Management video will be shown.
For all other fall sports, the required meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 6 in the school cafeteria.

Note: Before beginning practice, each student needs a current physical exam and a parental consent form, available in the athletic office, athletic trainers’ office or VP office on campus.

UH football season tickets on sale
Season tickets for the 2014 UH football season are on sale. Prices start at $75.
Tickets can be purchased online at hawaiiathletics.com, or by calling the Stan Sheriff Center box office at 944-2697 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday.
Karate tournament in Hilo
The International Karate League will host Tournament of Champions from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday at Edith Kanakaole Multipurpose Stadium.
Marking the first IKL tournament in Hilo in 28 years, the event will welcome schools from the mainland and the islands.
The tournament is hosted by Wilbur Mina of Keaau Dojo.
Admission is free.
Special Olympics coaches needed
Special Olympics West Hawaii is looking for soccer coaches. Practices and games are underway at Old Kona Airport Park fields from 3-5 p.m. Tuesdays and Fridays. The season runs through Aug. 10.
Basketball coaches are also wanted for the Winter Games. The season runs from September through November.

Sunrise Athletics run/walk on tap
Sunrise Athletics second annual 5K and 1.5-mile Fun Run/Walk — Supported by BioAstin will be held July 26 at Liliuokalani Gardens in Hilo. The 5k will start at 7:30 a.m. and the 1.5-mile race at 8:15 a.m.
There will be postrace snacks, giveaways, field-day events and a rummage sale ongoing throughout the event. There will be awards for the top overall runners, age group and other categories. The “Race to the Top” organization winner bringing in the most participants will be announced and given the monetary award.
Applications may be picked up at Spencer’s Health and Fitness, Just Cruising Coffee, Starbucks-Puainako and Big Island Running Company in Kailua-Kona and Hilo. Deadline to register with shirt guaranteed is Saturday, but late registration until race day is accepted with no extra cost and no shirt guaranteed.
Makalei summer tournament
The third of four events of a summer tournament at Makalei Golf Club is scheduled for July 19.
The last event is scheduled for Aug. 16.
Prizes are given at each event, and points accumulate toward qualification for the Makalei Cup Challenge.
