Fukushima Kids fundraisers planned
Two events will raise money for Fukushima Kids.
A charity Zumbathon will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. today at Kona International Market. Katie Moore is the Zumba instructor. Cost is $15 at the door.
A benefit concert will be held Aug. 10 at Hawaiian Queen Coffee Garden on Henry Street. A silent auction will be held at 3 p.m. and pupu and wine will be served. The concert begins at 4 p.m. and features vocalists Marius Stranger and Kauilani Trainer, pianist Annu Shionoya and flutists Yumi Kikuchi and Roy Kimura. The music of classical composers such as Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Gabriel Faure and Georges Bizet will be featured. Mothers and children visiting from Fukushima, Japan, to escape radiation will give a special performance.
Admission is $15 with reservation or $20 at the door. Email rawinfo@harmonicslife.net with name, phone number and number of tickets for reservation. Aloha Keiki Ensemble advance tickets are valid for this and future concerts and cost $15 for one ticket, $60 for five or $100 for 10 tickets. The next concert will be held Dec. 21.
Kona Library Book Club meets Tuesday
The Kona Library Book Club meets at 11 a.m. Tuesday on the Kailua-Kona Public Library lanai. This month’s selection is “The Night Circus” by Erin Morgenstern. The meeting will include light refreshments and a discussion.
August’s book selection will be “The Spy Wore Red” by Aline, Countess of Romanones.
Disabilities panel meets Wednesday
The mayor’s Committee on People with Disabilities meets at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the ADRC Training Room, 1055 Kinoole St., Hilo. The meetings are open to the public. The agenda will be posted on the county’s website.

Thursday meeting explores senior housing options
An informational meeting to explore a different housing option for those 50 years and older, “Cohousing for Boomers and Beyond: Changing the Face of Aging by Revolutionizing Vibrant Communities,” will take place from 6 to 6:45 p.m. Thursday at the West Hawaii Community Health Center conference room, 75-5751 Kuakini Highway.
The presentation will look at a cohousing model of living in a large, social community in a person’s home with as much privacy and community as the owner wants. Light refreshments will be served.

Kona Toastmasters meets at 6 p.m. on the first and third Tuesday of each month on the second floor of the old Borders building on the corner of Queen Kaahumanu Highway and Henry Street.
