Highway 180 reopened around 4:30 p.m. following a single car collision with a utility pole early Saturday morning that knocked out power to some 700 customers.
One person was transported to Kona Community Hospital with injuries in the 3:37 a.m. single-vehicle crash, which left a power pole unsteady, Hawaii Island police said.
A Hawaii Electric Light Company crew was working to restore the pole on Saturday and the road remained closed through the early afternoon. Power was restored to the majority of customers in the morning, a HELCO spokeswoman said. The lengthy repairs involved digging a new hole and replacing the transmission pole, the spokeswoman said.
The closure occurred approximately one mile south of the junction of highways 180 and 190.
