Hawaii Electric Light Co. announced an update to its transmission line upgrade project along Highway 190 from the Waikoloa junction to Puuanahulu.

Now through July 12, crews will be working in the vicinity of mile makers 15 and 18. One lane will be closed to traffic from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday, except holidays. Motorists are encouraged to drive with caution through the construction area. Delays of about 15 minutes or less are anticipated, and motorists are encouraged to use alternative routes, if possible, HELCO said.

The closure will allow crews to upgrade transmission lines and equipment to improve system reliability. The project is expected to be completed around July 31.
