The earthquake was recorded at 5 a.m. Hawaii time in the New Britain region of Papua New Guinea, according to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in Honolulu.

Based on all available data, a destructive Pacific-wide tsunami is not expected and there is no threat of tsunami to Hawaii.
