The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center says a 6.6-magnitude earthquake in the Kermadec Islands region is not expected to create a tsunami threat to Hawaii.

The earthquake happened at 9:50 a.m. Hawaii time on Thursday in the Kermadec Islands, which is located northeast of New Zealand. Based on all available data, a destructive Pacific-wide tsunami was not triggered.
