The earthquake was recorded at 7:15 a.m. Hawaii time, according to the center.
Based on all available data, the center said a destructive Pacific-wide tsunami is not expected and there is no threat of tsunami to Hawaii.
The earthquake follows a magnitude-6.7 that struck at 5:52 a.m. Hawaii time on Sunday near Fiji. That earthquake also did not trigger a tsunami, according to the center.
