Two Big Island athletes are returning from the Special Olympics USA National Games with medals.

The games, which were held in New Jersey, wrapped up last week, and both Big Island representatives fared well.

Daylan Toribio, a six-year Special Olympics athlete from Kurtistown, won gold in the 100-meter dash. He also claimed silver in the 200 meters and finished fifth in the shot put.

Kalani Gonsalves of Hilo also brought home a medal from the track and field events. In his 12th year with Special Olympics, Gonsalves won silver in the 400 meters. He also finished fourth in shot put and sixth in the 800 meters.

Team Hui O Hawaii brought home 25 medals, including 12 gold and 10 silver medals.
