Jessie Oliveira

Jessie “Tutu” A. Oliveira, 89, of Paukaa died June 20, 2014, at Hilo Medical Center. Born June 19, 1925, in Hilo, she was a retired sales clerk and tour guide for the former Orchids of Hawaii, a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Papaikou, the Y.M.I., the Portuguese Cultural Club and a former member of the YWCA Water Aerobics.

Friends may call at 8:30 a.m. June 30 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Papaikou for a 10:30 a.m. service. Burial follows at noon at Homelani Memorial Park, Section 3. Family requests casual attire be worn and no flowers.

She is survived by son, Edwin Oliveira of Paukaa; daughters, Marie Roberts of Paukaa, Margaret “Maggie” DeSa of Keaau; sister, Rose Perry of Paukaa; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.

Charles Huston Jr.

Charles “Charlie” E. Huston Jr., 72, of Keaau died June 22, 2014, at Hilo Medical Center. Born Sept. 16, 1941, in Olaa, he was the owner and operator of Charlie’s Water Hauling, a retired state Department of Transportation Highways Division employee and member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Keaau.

Friends may call at 5 p.m. July 1 at Dodo Mortuary chapel in Hilo for a 6:30 p.m. service. Friends may again call at 8 a.m. July 2 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Keaau for a 9:30 a.m. Mass. Burial follows at Homelani Memorial Park Lehua Section. Family requests casual attire be worn.

He is survived by wife, Gwen Huston of Keaau; sons, Dean Huston and Charles Huston, both of Keaau, Darrell (Marilou) Huston of Hilo; daughter, Denise Gaylord of Mountain View; brother, Thomas (Annie) Campbell of Ainaloa; sisters, Arleta Smith of Kentucky, Rachel (Ken) McKenzie of Kansas; six grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Thomas Sonomura

Thomas “Tats” Tatsuo Sonomura, 79, of Hilo died June 21, 2014, at his home. Born March 31, 1935, in Honokaa, he was a retired heavy equipment mechanic for M. Sonomura Contracting Co., Korean War Army veteran, served in the Hawaii Army National Guard and was a member of Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin, 1 1/2 Mile Kaumana Kumiai, and Blane’s Coffee Gang.

Friends may call at 9:30 a.m. July 1 at Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin, 398 Kilauea Ave., for an 11 a.m. service. An additional service will be held at Hosoi Garden Mortuary in Honolulu with committal at Hawaii State Veterans Cemetery in Kaneohe, Oahu. Family requests casual attire be worn and no flowers.

He is survived by wife, Edna Sonomura of Hilo; daughter, Tracy Ann Sonomura of Honolulu; son, Ryan Sonomura of Honolulu; brothers, Akira (Madeleine) Sonomura of Las Vegas, Harold (Ruby) Sonomura of Honolulu; sisters, Doris Velasco and Ruth Goshi both of California, Kay (Stanley) Hamamoto and Joyce Sonomura, both of Honolulu; numerous nieces and nephews.

Caroline Arruda

Caroline Jessie Arruda, 87, of Hilo died June 15, 2014, at Hilo Medical Center. She was born Nov. 20, 1926, in Hilo.

A service will be held at 10 a.m. July 2 at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Urn burial follows at Homelani Memorial Park. Online condolences may be posted at homelanimemorialpark.com.

She is survived by two grandnephews; three grandnieces.

Daril Ekahi Aloha

Daril Raymond Ekahi Aloha, 47, of Hilo died June 14, 2014, at Hilo Medical Center. Born March 31, 1967, in Honolulu, she was an administrative assistant for the Commercial Services Program at the Arc of Hilo, a former driver for E.A.N. Holdings, a volunteer with Eliminating Violence through Community Outreach, a member of Ke Kilohana Oka Malamalama and a past president and member of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society.

Friends may call at 6 p.m. July 2 at Dodo Mortuary chapel, Hilo, for a 7 p.m. service. Friends may also call at 9 a.m. July 3 at the mortuary for a 10 a.m. service. Burial follows at Homelani Memorial Park, Ilima Section. Family requests casual attire be worn.

She is survived by companion, Evelyn K. Lee; hanai son, Daison (Savannah) Lee; mother, Frances (Peter) Rodrigues; father, Harold (Jaye) Raymond; sisters, Desiree Raymond, Krystal Raymond, Sheri Lau, Shannon Liilii, Kasey Kua, Lovena Rodrigues; four grandchildren.

Joseph Bybee

Joseph “Joz” Darius Bybee, 40, of Kailua-Kona died June 14, 2014, at Kaiser Permanente Moanalua Medical Center. Born March 28, 1974, in Klamath Falls, Ore., he was a biological technician at the Kaloko-Honokohau National Historical Park and a TSA agent at Kona International Airport.

Friends may call at 9 a.m. July 5 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints chapel, 75-230 Kalani St. in Kailua-Kona, for an 11 a.m. service. Burial follows at Kona Memorial Park in Holualoa. Flowers are welcome. Donations may be made to Friends of Joz Fund at Bank of Hawaii.

He is survived by wife, Dina Bybee of Kailua-Kona; son, Jona Bybee of Kailua-Kona; daughter, Cora Bybee of Kailua-Kona; parents, Howard and Suzanne Bybee of Utah; brothers, James (Roxanne) Bybee of Placerville, Calif., David (Herenui) Bybee of Laie, Oahu, Jonathan (Jenny) Bybee and Seth (Elizabeth) Bybee, both of Utah; sister, Emily (Garret) Stembridge of Utah; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Arthur Martin, 51, of Pahoa died June 16, 2014, at Hilo Medical Center. Born May 22, 1963, in Lanai City, Lanai, he was a heavy equipment operator for Hawaiian Earth Products.

He is survived by wife, Stephanie Martin of Pahoa; daugthers, Harmonie (Kristin Momoa) Martinez-Momoa of Makakilo, Oahu, Crystal Dabis of Las Vegas, Kristin Dabis of Waianae, Oahu; son, Kamuela Martin-Dabis of Waianae, Oahu; father, Manuel Martinez of Wahiawa, Oahu; sister, Rachel (Dwayne) Perry-Martinez of Aiea, Oahu, two grandchildren; nieces and nephews; one grandniece; one grandnephew.

Sadie Fujii

Sadie Sadae Fujii, 91, of Hilo died May 12, 2014, at her home. Born in Hanapepe, Kauai, she was a retired keypunch supervisor with the University of Hawaii at Manoa campus, worked at the National Security Agency in Maryland and was a participant of Hawaii Island Adult Care.

Private services were held on Oahu.

She is survived by son, Brian (Linda) Fujii of Villa Rica, Ga.; daughters, Janice Nakahara of Hilo, Charlene (Wayne) Mizumoto of Honolulu, Connie (Clifford) Calantoc of Waipahu, Oahu; brother, Ronald (Carol) Mizobe of California; sister, Kay Mizobe of Oahu; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.

Dorothy Walker

Dorothy Veronica Walker, 84, of Pahoa died June 19, 2014, at her residence. Born Feb. 13, 1930, in Sydney, she was a lifetime member of Hawaii Public Radio, Hawaii Chapter of the American Rhododendron Society, Hawaii Concert Society and East Hawaii Cultural Center.

She is survived by spouse, Billy Walker of Pahoa; sons, Stephen (Marthann) Walker of Phoenix, Brett Walker of Keaau; daughter, Rachel Leyva of Kurtistown; sister, Norma Dean of Surf Beach, Australia; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; nieces and nephews.

Kealoha Kauwe

Kealoha Kauwe, 93, of Hilo died June 15, 2014, at Hilo Medical Center. Born Nov. 12, 1920, in Kalaoa, she was a homemaker.

Private services were held. An urn committal will be held at a later date at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2

She is survived by sons, Charles (Ligaya) Laniawe, Richard Kauwe Jr. and Stanley (Kelly) Kauwe, all of Hilo, Henry (Nora) Kauwe of Hawaiian Paradise Park, Leroy (Juana) Laniawe of El Cajon, Calif., Danford (Vivian) Kahele of Captain Cook; daughters, Grace (Gary) Kauwe of Las Vegas, Helen (Tom) Kauwe of Lakeside, Calif., Julia Kauwe of Vista, Calif., Lyla (Dave) Kauwe of Hawaiian Paradise Park; sister, Mary Kuahiwinui of Hawaiian Beaches; 28 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
