Moondance Adventures, a teen adventure summer program based out of North Carolina, is spending three days from Tuesday through Thursday working with Ulu Mau Puanui in North Kohala and Honokaa High and Intermediate School’s agriculture program.
At Ulu Mau Puanui, the group hiked up Puu Kehena to learn about how Hawaiians sustained rain-fed intensive farming for centuries and also performed a service learning activity at one of its fenced garden demonstration plots.
While at Honokaa Honokaa High and Intermediate School, they learned about the program and worked in the school’s farm. Students got to harvest and plant sweet potatoes.
