HONOLULU — A man convicted of shipping stolen motorcycles to the Philippines in “balikbayan” boxes has been sentenced to 18 months in prison.
The Honolulu Star-Advertiser reports 35-year-old Michael Anthony Domingo is one of six people charged in federal court with sending motorcycles known to be stolen.
Federal officials say the practice occurred over at least two years. Domingo and three other people pleaded guilty and two are awaiting trial.
Federal authorities say Domingo took orders for motorcycles on his Facebook account and filled orders with stolen motorcycles.
Domingo told investigators it usually took seven balikbayan boxes to ship a complete motorcycle.
U.S. District Judge Michael Seabright ordered Domingo to pay $22,500 restitution to the owners of two stolen motorcycles.
