HONOLULU — Honolulu Emergency Medical Services officials say the girl who drowned Sunday at Pokai Beach Park was an 11-year-old sixth-grader at Wahiawa Elementary School.

Gloria Eram was pulled from the water in critical condition. She died at a hospital.

Her 9-year-old sister was pulled from the water first and remains in critical condition.

The Honolulu Star-Advertiser reports the girls were with their father, who was barbecuing.

Witnesses spotted the younger girl in shallow water just before noon. Emergency Medical Services spokeswoman Shayne Enright says paramedics used a public address system in their vehicle to find the father as the younger girl was being loaded into an ambulance.

Witnesses spotted Gloria Eram submerged about a half-hour later and pulled her from the water.
