PEARL HARBOR — The USS Lake Erie is returning to Pearl Harbor from a four-month deployment to the western Pacific.
The guided-missile cruiser is expected back in its home port on Monday.
The Lake Erie is scheduled to move to San Diego later this summer. The San Diego-based USS John Paul Jones will shift its home port to Pearl Harbor in its place.
The Navy says the swap will bring updated, advanced capabilities to Hawaii while allowing the Lake Erie to be docked for ship repairs.
The John Paul Jones is currently the most technologically advanced ship in the Navy’s ballistic missile defense program.
