HONOLULU — A 12-year-old girl died Sunday in the ocean at Pokai Bay Beach Park.
Honolulu Emergency Medical Services officials say the girl’s 9-year-old sister was also pulled from the water and is serious condition but stable.
The girls were in the water unattended. The Honolulu Star-Advertiser reports EMS workers used a public address system to find their father.
Witnesses say the younger girl was found first in shallow water and brought to shore. She was drifting in and out of consciousness.
Beachgoers told EMS responders they didn’t know the injured girl was with her sister. They spotted the older girl about a half hour later submerged in the same area. She was taken to a hospital in critical condition and pronounced dead.
