HONOLULU — A 24-year-old Waianae man has been convicted of negligent homicide for a traffic crash that killed another driver nearly three years ago.

The Honolulu Star-Advertiser reports Jameson Yong changed his plea Thursday to no contest despite having a no plea arrangement with prosecutors.

Police say Yong on Nov. 19, 2011, drove the wrong way on the H-2 Freeway a half-mile south of the Ka Uka Boulevard exit and crashed into a pickup driven by Lance Miyashiro of Wahiawa.

The pickup flipped and was rammed by a sport utility vehicle. Forty-year-old Miyashiro died at the scene.

Yong was extricated from the car in critical condition. The SUV driver suffered serious injuries.

Yong faces up to five years in prison and a $10,000 fine when he’s sentenced in August.
