Sue Brown, a real estate agent with Livingston Realty in Kealakekua, has been named to the 2014 Hawaii Business magazine Top 100 Realtors list. The list recognizes the highest performing agents in the state of Hawaii.

Island Heart Care expands diagnostic services

Island Heart Care’s newly expanded Nuclear Cardiology Department is offering state-of-the-art diagnostic services that help effectively diagnose and treat patients with heart disease including myocardial perfusion scans and echocardiography.

“Myocardial perfusion scans give us a strong ability to identify the presence of heart disease,” Island Heart Care Nuclear Cardiologist Tom Watters said. “We have the images to help pinpoint where circulatory defects are located, the severity of the defect and the functional capacity of your heart. This helps enable physicians to develop an effective treatment plan.”

Heart disease is still a leading cause of death for men and women. Hawaii County has the highest cardiovascular mortality rate in the state.

AMR Air Hawaii earns accreditation

AMR Air Hawaii is the only ambulance service in the state to earn accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems. AMR Air Hawaii, which owns and operates three fixed-wing air ambulances, began operations in May 2013. It operates under the same ownership as Hawaii’s longtime ground ambulance service provider, American Medical Response.

To earn the accreditation, a service must demonstrate compliance to strict standards involving quality of medical care, equipment maintenance, communications and safety, along with passing a comprehensive, on-site inspection. Only 165 medical transport services in the world have earned the accreditation.

AMR Air Hawaii transports patients interisland and maintains bases on Oahu, Maui and Hawaii Island.

Island Fish &Chips offers breakfast menu

Island Fish &Chips has expanded its hours to serve breakfast daily from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. The new menu offers selections such as the Island Fish Loco Moco Plate, a fish and chips breakfast platter, Belgian waffles, sausage gravy served on waffle biscuits, eggs and bacon.

Masunaga recognized by bar association

Margaret Masunaga, deputy corporation counsel for Hawaii County, has been selected as the American Bar Association’s Government and Public Sector Lawyers Division Nelson Award winner for 2014.

The Nelson Award recognizes outstanding contributions to the American Bar Association by an individual government or public sector lawyer. The award will be presented at the American Bar Association’s Annual Meeting Aug. 8. in Boston.

The award recognizes Masunaga’s distinguished career as a government lawyer and her leadership in the American Bar Association where she has served above and beyond the call of duty for 23 years. She is an American Bar Association delegate for Hawaii, a member of the American Bar Association commission on women in the profession, and a member of the Hawaii Council for the Humanities. Masunaga has focused her volunteer efforts on projects that promote diversity and gender equity in the legal profession.

Thunder Mountain ranked sixth

Thunder Mountain has been ranked No. 6 among the top coffees worldwide by the Specialty Coffee Association of America, which held the Roasters Choice competition April 27 in Seattle.

Thunder Mountain CEO and founder Trent Bateman said this is a first for Kona to make it this far in a Specialty Coffee Association of America competition. This year’s competition focused on the roast master and the art of roasting. Thunder Mountain also won the best new coffee product category with its skincare line at the association’s conference.

In addition, Thunder Mountain recently won a statewide cupping contest and the Kona Coffee Cultural Festival’s cupping competition.
