Vegan food preparation demonstrated
Kona Vegetarian Society will hold its monthly meeting at 6:30 p.m. Monday at Pottery Terrace, Suite 323, 75-5995 Kuakini Highway.
Jesse and Ellie Imgrund will demonstrate how to make several simple vegan dishes for maximum nutrient assimilation for vitality and sustainable energy. Nonvegetarians are welcome.

Kealakekua library plans program events
The Kealakekua Public Library is holding its summer reading program, “Fizz, Boom, Read” — for children, “Spark a Reaction” for teens and “Literary Elements” for adults — with free events lined up. There will be craft and special programs for all ages, with prizes for reading books.
The scheduled events include:
• Tuesday at 2:30 p.m., marbling paper craft, 12 years and older
• June 18 at 5:30 p.m., hardware science, 8 years and older
• June 25 at 5:30 p.m., pyramid craft, 5 years and older
• July 2 at 5:30 p.m., Insect World
• July 9 at 5:30 p.m., Stories Fizzing with Fun Magic and Science, preschool to grade 2.
All programs run about one hour, and all children 5 or younger must be accompanied by a parent. Sign language interpreter or other accommodations should be requested three weeks in advance of the event if possible.
The Kealakekua library is open from noon to 4 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Friday, 2 to 7 p.m. Wednesday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. For more information, call 323-7585.
Brain injury support group meets
A brain injury support group will meet from 6 to 8 p.m. June 11 at Hawaiian Rehab Services, just mauka of Hawaii Community Federal Credit Union on Hualalai Road.
Sigrid Hoehler, Thomas Hohler and John Hetherington will give a presentation titled “My Second Life” that will focus on attitudes and actions for letting go of the past and embracing the challenges of the present.

Keiki Performing Arts Workshop set
Students entering grades 3 through 6 are invited to apply to the Keiki Performing Arts Workshop at Kahilu Theatre.
This free musical theater and performing arts camp will be held from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday July 28 to Aug. 10.
Students participate in numerous acting games, improvisation and quick thinking. They rehearse music numbers each day, learning lyrics, tunes and choreography for the numbers. Students also explore theater-related arts and crafts, including costuming and set design. The final performance will be Aug. 10 as part of Kahilu Theatre’s Family Fun Day.
Students only need to bring lunch, everything else will be provided by Kahilu Theatre. Applications are available at kahilutheatre.org/Education/Youth and due by June 11. Applicants will be notified of acceptance by June 17.
